R.S. LYLE

JULY 12 – 18, 2009

Troop 332 will be attending R.S.Lyle Scout Reservation this month.  For some of you this will be a repeat trip and you know what fun awaits you. For others, this is a first time trip and you’re probably excited to find out what it’s all about.  Repeat camper or new camper, this year’s trip will be the best time of your life.

Lyle is an open program camp – which means the boys can choose how they wish to spend their time.  Besides advancement opportunities, the boys will have the option of working on many different merit badges.  Merit badges offered at camp include, but are not limited to: Swimming, Hiking, Pioneering, Canoeing, Archery, Music, Art, Fishing, Geology, Forestry, and Indian Lore.  Just about any interest they have is represented in at least one of the areas at camp.  And of course, they have the option of hanging out with friends and learning life skills, like cooking and  time management.

What I’m trying to say is “ Camp is What they make it.”

Adult Leaders will be present at camp to  help the program work.  You’ll  be  put in a patrol, just like the boys.  Different from the youth, Adults will be part of the patrol to help facilitate the camp experience.

The boys will be “running the show” and doing the work.  Don’t feel  bad if you are reminded to let the boys do the jobs.  All of us, including myself, need that nudge from time to time.  It’s much easier to jump in and do it yourself – but no one learns from that.  So relax, and let the  program work.  Believe me it will !!!!

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIME

We will meet at Meyer Park parking lot  on Sunday, July 12, 2007 at 7:30 a.m.    Please be prompt so we can depart  as close to 8:00 as possible.  It is about a 5 hour ride.  We will stop in Antigo for lunch before checking in to camp.  We will  be finishing up Transportation issues today, but basicly because of the price of gas, we are asking each Scout to bring $20.00 for gas costs which will be divided among the drivers.

Departure from camp should be before noon on Saturday, July 18.  If you are planning to pick up your son on Saturday, please be aware that our site will need to be inspected and approved by Camp Staff  before any Scouts are allowed to leave.  You may arrive as early as 9:00 a.m. but that doesn’t  necessarily mean you’ll be leaving then!  Scouts returning home with drivers from camp should be home by 5:00 ish.  Once we are on the road, you should be able to contact an Adult by cell phone for a better idea of arrival time.

EMERGENCY CONTACTS

Telephone  use at Lyle is restricted to emergencies only.  The Reservation Lodge may be contacted at 715-275-3436.  I will have my cell phone 262-470-5774.  You  are welcome to contact me if needed – just so you’re aware, cell service is sketchy at Lyle- so plan on leaving a message and I will return the call as soon as possible.

MEDICATIONS/SPECIAL NEEDS

If you’re Scout has any medication needs, a medication form must be filled in prior to leaving for camp.  All meds, including over the counter meds, must be clearly labeled with name and dosage, in Rx bottle.  All meds are kept in the Health Office and it is the boy’s responsibility to make sure he takes them as needed.  Please let me know if  you have any concerns, questions, etc.  We want all the boys and parents to have a worry free camping trip.

Any special dietary concerns, food allergies, etc. should also be brought our attention.  Be sure you contact me prior to departing for camp.
